Marius Wankel, born in 1996 in Heidelberg, is a drummer and improviser living in Berlin. After growing up within a musical family he started playing the drums and piano at a very young age. After finishing musical Highschool in Munich he began his studies in Jazz Drums at the University of Music in Würzburg and learned from Bill Elgart and Bastian Jütte. Through the years he archived several awards in youth competitions Jugend musiziert and Jugend jazzt and was awarded twice by the HfM Würzburg. In 2018 he moved to Berlin to continue his studies at the Jazz Institut Berlin, which he completed in 2021. Since then, he has been an active member of the jazz and experimental music scene in Berlin, playing in numerous national and international projects. In 2025 he won the Deutscher Jazzpreis as part of the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra and since 2023 he is part of Future Bash a concert series happening at Neue Zukunft, which was awarded with the APPLAUS award in 2025. He has already collaborated with artists such as Robyn Schulkowsky, Kit Downes, Myka9, Lotte Anker, Tony Buck, Andrea Parkins, Wanja Slavin, Ronny Graupe, Camila Nebbia, Philipp Gropper, Daniel Derro Regan, Tim Novikov and Isaiah Barr.
